The Source was a bioelectronic source of power that the Keeper of Traken, who ever was elected at the time, used to keep the peace in the Traken Union civilisation.
History
The Source was created by Kwundaar, a god of the Trakenites, before being shunned by them in replace of the Source. Kwundaar then attempted to regain his access to the Source and attempted to trick the Doctor into giving Kwundaar its power but failed and was overcome by it. The Doctor then set up the Keeper of Traken system after Kwundaar damaged some of the components in the Source. (BFA: Primeval) The Source was something of rarity as the Traken Union were using it to stop evil attacking the civilisation. The Melkur takes control of the Source from the Consul Kassia who disappears when the Melkur materialises in her place. In order to stop the Melkur, Adric and Nyssa create a servo-shutdown which destabilises the Source stopping Melkur controlling it.
