Jim was one of the young boys Nancy was looking after on the streets of Blitzed London. He had been evacuated to a family in the country, but fled back home to London. Although he couldn't read or write, Jim was determined to send a letter to his missing dad using an old typewriter. After he stopped typing, the 'Empty Child' began psychically using the typewriter.
