Attendant demons were costumed figures in Manussan celebrations. On the day of the ceremony, the attendant demons would seek out the unwary and touch them. Those touched were required to forfeit a coin. It they did not pay, the attendant demon would throw water over them.

An attendant demon touched the Fifth Doctor while he was on Manussa. Chela paid the attendant demon for him as the Doctor did not carry any coins. (DW: Snakedance)
