The Kangs were gangs of wild young girls living inside the Paradise Towers. They were divided into groups by at least three known colours: Red Kangs, Blue Kangs and Yellow Kangs. The last Yellow Kang was killed shortly before the Doctor arrived on Paradise Towers. (DW: Paradise Towers)

The Red Kangs greeted each other [they called it How You Do] with some sort of children's clapping game. (DW: Paradise Towers)

Names

The Kangs didn't use ordinary names. They were named after objects:

Language

The Kangs used their own language, with different words or pronunciation:

  • Unalive instead of Dead
  • Brainquarter instead of Headquarter
  • Footing instead of Walking
  • Alleviator instead of Elevator
  • Carrydoor instead of Corridor
  • Hide-in instead of Hide-out
  • Un-young instead of Old
  • Mayhaps instead of Perhaps/Maybe

They also often used the phrase: Build High for Happness.

The name is a phonetic corruption of "gang".
