Ancestral memory, also known as race memory, was a memory present at birth in an individual due to racial history. This occured from an event repeated over enough times that it was incorporated into a species' genome.
The Great Old Ones were preserved in humanity's race memory as nightmarish creatures of chaos. (BFA: The Roof of the World) Some humans also had an ancestral fear of Silurians, causing mental breakdowns. (DW: Doctor Who and the Silurians)
