Lt. Algernon Thomas Alfred Ffinch was the commanding officer of the Redcoat patrol that arrested the Second Doctor, Ben Jackson, Jamie McCrimmon and Colin McLaren. At first planning to hang them, he was persuaded by Solicitor Grey to hand them over to him.

After taking him prisoner, Polly Wright and Kirsty McLaren forced him to give his help in rescuing their friends. Later, Ffinch arrested Grey for illegal slave trading.
