Mark Waters was the most dominant director of photography on the first two series of Torchwood, for which his series 1 work received a Welsh BAFTA. This made him only the second DP or lighting director — behind Ernie Vincze — to have won a mainstream, competitive award for their work on a Doctor Who universe show.
In 2009, he moved to The Sarah Jane Adventures, where he was that series' only DP. He finally joined the parent programme in 2010, providing his services for a single, two-part story in Matt Smith's first series of Doctor Who.
