The Smilers were mounted in booths around the Starship UK. Any time a citizen broke the law or was deemed unnecessary, the Smilers would feed them to the [[Star Whale]] (except for children who were sentenced to work in the [[Tower of London]]). The Smilers rotated their heads to show three faces: happy, displeased (for warnings), and Anger (when attacking). While they had three faces, they appeared to rotate their heads halfway around, which should mean they only had two. This might mean that faces could be removed when they rotated.

While Smilers initially appeared to be merely heads, in extreme circumstances they could leave their booths and attack. Smilers were a type of android used aboard Starship UK.

History

The Smilers were mounted in booths around the Starship UK. Any time a citizen broke the law or was deemed unnecessary, the Smilers would feed them to the Star Whale (except for children who were sentenced to work in the Tower of London).

The terrified population kept the areas around their booths clean and never dared get too close to them. The Smilers could quickly repair themselves from damage such as being shot.

Humans hybridized with Smilers were known as Winders and formed a secret police force that maintained the clockwork machinery on Starship UK. (DW: The Beast Below)
