Val worked in Sanderson & Grainger, the shop where people were being converted into Cybermen. When the Eleventh Doctor worked there, she, like the rest of the employees, became quite fond of him. She gossiped with the Doctor and thought he and Craig Owens were a couple and good daddies to Craig's son, Alfie Owens. She also told the Doctor about the silver rat thing. (DW: Closing Time)
