Tarzan was a fictional character. He was a man who lived in the jungle amongst the apes. Ace nicknamedNimrod (a man who strongly resembled an ape) Tarzan (DW: Ghost Light)
When Hilary Pink asked the Eighth Doctor if he had ever read Tarzan of the Apes, the Doctor replied that he had met him, too. (EDA: Eater of Wasps)
