Arthur Lloyd was a London householder who reluctantly joined his wife and son in their air-raid shelter when the sirens started during his dinner in late January 1941. When the raid was over, the Lloyds discovered Nancy attempting to leave their house, after she had allowed the stray children she was protecting to eat the family's evening meal. Nancy then blackmailed him into giving her other things she needed, including a torch and some wire-cutters, by threatening to expose that it was Arthur, not his wife, who was having an affair with Mr Haverstock, the butcher.
