Uploading images

Please when uploading any images select the correct copyright licence tag for the images. If images are not correctly tagged they may be deleted. Thanks. --Tangerineduel / talk 16:46, July 26, 2011 (UTC)

Uploading new versions of images

Please DO NOT upload new versions of files that have no relation to the images they're replacing. Such as your upload of File:The Web Planet.jpg, which was a screenshot used in the infobox. You replaced with a DVD cover...which was already uploaded to the wiki, see Doctor Who DVD covers/Region 4. Also File:The Moonbase.jpg which was also a screenshot and you replaced it with a CD cover. Please look around the site as the image may already be present on the wiki prior to you uploading them. Uploading new versions that have nothing to do with their original versions can be extremely frustrating as those images are often in use on other articles or other parts of the site, and we kinda expect them to keep showing what the uploaded intended, there's also stuff like the copyright tags (which are linked into categories for them) and other things like that. Thanks. --Tangerineduel / talk 17:05, August 2, 2011 (UTC)

For future reference these articles contain many of the images you're looking to use, but have been correctly copyright tagged.

You'll also find even more covers in the Category:BBC Video covers, Category:BBC DVD covers, Category:Audio covers, Category:CD covers and Category:Media covers. These categories contain all the media cover images uploaded to this wiki as they've all been copyright tagged (untagged images are often deleted). --Tangerineduel / talk 17:13, August 2, 2011 (UTC)

Please remember to select a copyright tag for images you upload or they will be deleted. Additionally please check the above links before uploading potential duplicates or inferior images. It makes for extra work for admins to check over each edit and manually correct the edits and delete or tag the images you have uploaded. Thanks. --Tangerineduel / talk 13:51, August 7, 2011 (UTC)

Warning

Warning, uploading new versions of images that have nothing to do with the current image, as you have done with File:1.jpg is viewed as vandalism, you will be blocked from editing on this wiki if this practice continues.

To avoid these actions, for starters don't agree or use the 'upload new version of this file' (this replaces the current image, and also please name the file something that describes what the image of. --Tangerineduel / talk 13:57, August 7, 2011 (UTC)

You must add copyright templates to your image uploads

Thank you for your many image uploads. They have improved the site. However, it is extremely important that you take the time to add one of our copyright licenses to every photo you upload. Users downstream of this wiki must be able to read a message on our files which alerts them to the copyright status of every image. It is a vital part of our "fair use" claim on all of these images, since they are almost universally not in the public domain.

I have taken the time to personally thread my way through your contributions and add copyright licenses to all of them, deleting only a few. These deletions were mainly because we simply do not accept the .gif format on this wiki, according to tardis:image use policy.

This has taken me several days, on and off, because I have to wait for the cache to be cleared each day, in order to properly see my progress.

In the future, your unlicensed images will be summarily deleted, because no one on the administrative staff has the time to, well, clean up after you. Unlicensed images will simply be deleted by automatic process from this point forward.

You are therefore encouraged to use Special:Upload and Special:MultipleUpload in order to have access to the easy licensing drop-down menu.

Because you have been warned multiple times on this issue, it is now my disagreeable duty to inform you that not only will your images be summarily deleted, but you will be blocked from further editing. I hate to come down so hard, but you've had several warnings on the same subject already.

Please do not misunderstand firmness, however, for anger. No one is mad at you. Your contributions have all been valuable, and they've added to this site's development. We want and need your further efforts. But we must have compliance on this one point.

If you do not understand this message, or how to add licenses to a picture, please send me a message immediately, and I will do my best to explain how you need to alter your uploading practices. Alternately, you may get in touch with me in the chat function, accessibly from the right column on your screen.

Again, please do not be scared or resentful of this message. You've made some great contributions. We just need to make sure were making some kind of effort to protect the copyright interests of the owners of our pictures.
