We've got a couple of important quirks for a fan written wiki, so let's get them out of the way first.

British English, please

We generally use British English 'round these parts, so if you use another form of English, please be sure you set your spell checker to BrEng, and take a gander at our spelling cheat card.

Spoilers aren't cool

We have a strict definition of "spoiler" that you may find a bit unusual. Basically, a spoiler, to us, is anything that comes from a story which has not been released yet. So, even if you've got some info from a BBC press release or official trailer, it basically can't be referenced here. In other words, you gotta wait until the episode has finished its premiere broadcast to start editing about its contents. Please check the spoiler policy for more details.

Other useful stuff

Aside from those two things, we also have some pages that you should probably read when you get a chance, like:

Pictures need image licenses

Hi :) Thank for your uploads of IDW comic covers. However, please be aware that all uploads require an image license. In this case, the copyright template you need is {{idwcover}}. As is said in many places around the site, pictures without an image license are subject to summary deletion by automatic process. Please get licenses on your images as soon as you can or they may be deleted by bot.

Sorry - made a mistake. I was trying to add the cover of the 2012 novelisation and must have pressed the wrong button by mistake. I think I fixed it now. Sorry again.

ISBN numbers and links

I see you put the link brackets back on the ISBN numbers for The Coming of the Terraphiles. They really don't need it. Without the brackets the Wiki treats those numbers as Help:Magic words, and links them to a general book lookup page. With brackets in place, they go to a blank (not yet created) page within the Tardis Wiki, and no further. Pages titled with ISBN numbers are counter to the Naming conventions, since those should be under the book's title (which they already are), so they're not useful in their current form. I did not add the link brackets to the ISBN numbers. All I did was add the sentence saying that the book is also available as an ebook. Somehow the link brackets must have been added automatically as I was using visual editor at the time. I understand there has been problems with the visual editor before. I'm sorry - I should have checked the formatting in the source editor before publishing. I've just re-edited that section using source code to remove those brackets. Irving Braxiatel short stories

I have created a category for Irving Braxiatel short stories, please use this rather than category: Irving Braxiatel stories. That category should only be an "umbrella category" for its subcategories, and only used in rare circumstances such as the Dead and Buried webcast. Categories

Please note that category:Doctor Who comic stories is a meta category. That means that individual comic stories should not be placed into it. In general, only the most appropriate categories should be placed on pages. So, if it's a Fourth Doctor TVC comic, you want only Fourth Doctor TVC comic stories, not the whole litany of comic categories.

(The only exception is when categories get used in the Game of Rassilon, but that's a special case.)

External navigation templates

Please don't enclose external navigation templates, like {{dwrefguide}}, in italics. The template already contains proper italicisation. If you then manually add italics — as you did several months ago at The Eye of the Jungle — you will completely reverse the italicisation. In other words, it goes from being completely right, to being completely wrong.

It's me again, though my IP address will have changed. I've discovered that links to "Animal" get redirected to "Animan (audio story)" -- the misspelled version -- automatically but that the further redirect to "Animal (audio story)" -- the version you corrected -- is manual, so the user has to click on it. I've tracked down several links to "Animal" and fixed them by making them links to "Animal (audio story)" with "Animal" as the display text (like this Animal). I'm quite certain there'll be links I've missed, though. If you run across any "Animal" links, it'd be worth checking if they need fixed, too. I managed to find and fix a few more, mostly on pages for actors. I'm running out of ideas about where to look for the things, though. That's not to say there are none, just that systematic searching is becoming less useful. And, of course, it would be a title that's going to crop up all over the place as an ordinary word! If it had been (say) "Crime of the Century", it'd make sense to search the site using Google, but "Animal", in one form or another, is going to occur too often to make that sensible. --89.240.242.157^{talk to me} 02:54, March 10, 2012 (UTC)

Suzie (Father's Day)

The photo on Suzie (Father's Day) seems stretched vertically. I've no idea how to fix this (if it really is wrong and not just my imagination). I checked the original photo and it looks the same. I also have no idea how to fix this - maybe it's meant to be like this! You could contact the original uploader of the picture to check if it was stretched or not. You can see from http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/File:Suzie_(Father%27s_Day).jpg that it was uploaded by User:SuperHeroChaos. Let me know if you hear back from him/her. Brief block

Blocking you for 5 minutes basically just to get your attention. Please stop editing infoboxes. You appear to have missed all the notices around the site requesting that you do not edit infoboxes while the major overhaul takes place. See Forum:New infoboxes and you. I'll be rolling back some of you edits. Your block should just about be over when you read this. Please edit literally anything else but infoboxes. The process will be complete in about a week, if all goes well. A message will appear at that time sounding the all clear. Thanks.

BTW, noticed that you reverted CzechBot at Army of One. Wanted to highlight your reversion to point something out about code. You found the following objectionable:

next story = Fallout (audio story)|Fallout (audio story)|

I know that when you're looking at the raw code it looks weird, but it's completely harmless and does not display. At some point in the future I'll run the bot to strip out the second instance, but it's a very low priority thing. Becasuse there's no variable on the second Fallout (audio story)|, the infobox just ignores it. It's not at all necessary to the proper operation of the infobox to remove it.

Also, please do not remove the dab term from previous/next fields. You changed Fallout (audio story) to just Fallout. New pages in particular should be created from the start with the appropriate dab term. There should never be a page called "Fallout" created for this upcoming story. We retain a lot of legacy instances of un-disambiguated terms, but that's mostly for the convenience of long term editors who've grown accustomed to Colony in Space, The Unquiet Dead and the like. These un-dabed terms are really just for the familiar old television series titles. But for new TV stories and the thousands of, let's face it, minor stories (like these TW audios), most people haven't "gotten used to" any particular way of linking to the stories. We might as well, therefore, link to the properly dab-ed name.

I'm sorry about the infoboxes edits - I didn't realise that you were in the process of changing the wiki. I had seen the new graphics but didn't know there were other changes being made. As for reverting Army of One - when I opened that page it was empty - completely blank! I assumed someone had made an error in editing and acidentally erased the content - that happened to me before. So I reverted to the previous version hoping that the content would return.

I'll make sure to stick to the dabbed versions in future - you're right - it'll certainly help people not familiar with the stories to identify them.

Hi there. I know you edit audio story pages quite often and I'm sure you must have been infuriated when you couldn't edit them after they were released because no-one unprotected the page. Image size

Please make sure that the images you upload are smaller than 1mb in size. This part of the image policy. I have, unfortunately had to delete two image today that were over 1mb in size.

If you are referring to the cover to The Wanderer and Energy of the Daleks - it was not me who uploaded those file onto the site. I only uploaded the Emerald Tiger picture. I then noticed that someone else had uploaded those other pictures and used them on the article pages. I didn't know that they were bigger than 1mb. Insane redirect from link in "The Five Doctors"

I've just added a section to Talk:The Five Doctors (TV story) about the "Game of Rassilon" link in that article. That link has an insane redirect. I won't duplicate here what I said there but I'd be grateful if you'd keep a look out for someone actually taking some action to fix things -- and perhaps give the relevant someone(s) a bit of a nudge, if you judge it necessary.

Thanks for alerting me to this problem. I've removed the links to the Game of Rassilon as there doesn't seem to be a page set up describing the Game. I would if I thought I could give a sensible explanation of the Game but I'm very far from confident I could. People would probably get to the end of my text & say, "Duh?". Remember, I only found the problem because I was looking for an explanation myself!

Christmas cheer

Happy holidays!

As this fiftieth anniversary year comes to a close, we here at Tardis just want to thank you for being a part of our community — even if you haven't edited here in a while. If you have edited with us this year, then thanks for all your hard work.

This year has seen an impressive amount of growth. We've added about 11,000 pages this year, which is frankly incredible for a wiki this big. November was predictably one of the busiest months we've ever had: over 500 unique editors pitched in. It was the highest number of editors in wiki history for a year in which only one programme in the DWU was active. And our viewing stats have been through the roof. We've averaged well over 2 million page views each week for the last two months, with some weeks seeing over 4 million views!

We've received an unprecedented level of support from Wikia Staff, resulting in all sorts of new goodies and productive new relationships. And we've recently decided to lift almost every block we've ever made so as to allow most everyone a second chance to be part of our community.

2014 promises to build on this year's foundations, especially since we've got a full, unbroken series coming up — something that hasn't happened since 2011. We hope you'll stick with us — or return to the Tardis — so that you can be a part of the fun!
