Stephanie was an employee of the Butler Institute's Social Acquisition department at their New York City offices. She had previously worked at Texas Instruments. After giving Patrick O'Hara a tour of the Institute's offices, she attempted to hack into the company's computer system, but was caught by Mulwray. He took her to their boss, Mathew O'Hara, who was impressed with her and let her in on his plan to save humanity from the collapse of Earth's environment by having copies of their minds uploaded into computers.
