:Unfortunately, we don't use logic, we use Doctor Who sources. They called them tigers in ''[[The Last Dodo (novel)|The Last Dodo]]'', so we call them tigers. See the previous discussion on this page - if you can find an in-universe source that refers to a smilodon being the real name for a sabre-toothed tiger, go ahead. But this is a repository of what we know about the Doctor Who Universe, not the real world. Feel free to make a note about this in a behind the scenes section, though.
