The Kzinti were created by science fiction author Larry Niven. They made their first appearance in the short story "The Warriors" which takes place in his Known Space universe. Niven's short story "The Soft Weapon", which featured the Kzinti, was adapted into the Star Trek: The Animated Series episode The Slaver Weapon, which placed the Kzinti in the Star Trek universe.
