The Jaftee were primitive, ape-like humanoids from the planet Karris in the Andromeda Galaxy.
Biology[[edit] | [edit source]]
The Jaftee appeared to be small, squat primates, similar to Earth chimpanzees. They had short, powerful arms and long, copper-coloured hair that flowed down their backs. The Jaftee could not survive on the harsh, desert surface of Karris, so they lived in cave systems under the ground. (PROSE: Shining Darkness)
Society[[edit] | [edit source]]
The Jaftee collected religions as others collected stamps. They generally had two or three different religions at the same time, often mutually incompatible. The Jaftee never actually believed any of them; they just thought it was the pinnacle of sophistication to believe in things with no proof, because believing in things with proof was easy. The Jaftee were not keen on killing, except when it was "particularly showy". They had a High Priest of What We Believe Today. (PROSE: Shining Darkness)
Technology[[edit] | [edit source]]
The Jaftee were primitive tool users who had mastered fire and could construct buildings. Despite this simple technological level, they understood that the Cult of Shining Darkness (whom they worshipped as gods for a time) were probably not "from Heaven" but in fact flew about in "a big, metal box". (PROSE: Shining Darkness)
History[[edit] | [edit source]]
The Jaftee were visited by the Cult of Shining Darkness during their campaign to wipe out all mechanical life in the Andromeda Galaxy. The Cult left a part of a device in the care of the Jaftee, claiming it was a sacred artefact and that they would return to collect it later.
During this interlude, the Jaftee renounced the "Gods of Shining Darkness" for other religions, including the Adorers of the Fractured Stars and the Chicken of the Apocalypse.
The Cult returned to claim the artefact much later, bringing the captive Donna Noble with them. The Jaftee were resistant to the idea of returning to an old religion. To ensure their cooperation, Donna claimed that she was the "Ginger Goddess". The Jaftee promptly began to worship her. (PROSE: Shining Darkness)
