What do the nicknames the future doctor will have represent? All three have a more evil tone to them. Storm, The Beast and The Valeyard....

Storm-Probably a shortening of the oncoming storm and the fact he is like a storm, appearing and destroying everything present.

The Beast-As soon as I heard this, I thought of the beast from krop tor. It is probably impossible for this to be true but could be ultimately connected somehow. IT could imply the doctor becomes more beast like in his actions and how he solves something in the future and so the name would fit.

The Valeyard-This could go back to the original version of the valeyard which was that it was definitely the future doctor who, like the master before him, got desperate to extend his life and so tried any scheme to gain more regenerations. "The Beast" could just be a shortening of the Dalek's name for him: "the Predator".

I'm not sure how much we should read into the nicknames that The Great Intelligence gave the Doctor. That's not to say that they are untrue but he was hardly impartial and may have been confused about his sources.

Elsewhere it was pointed out, and I agree, that the "Grave matter of Trenzalore" (wonderful pun) needs to be resolved quickly into to restore jeopardy to the programme. Matt Smith leaves in two episodes time and there is still reason to suspect that, that must occur before he does. Yet whatever the explanation for Clara only seeing only eleven Doctors plus the "secret incarnation" the fact that The Great Intelligences used the future tense to describe the new names would seem to require a large amount more story to get there. Either that means we're going to miss a lot or else Trenzalore is going to be brought forward somehow perhaps excluding those adventures which the viewers may not like.

Of course, it's also possible that when the secret gets out many people rethink there position on the Doctor giving him these new titles and the GI is just being a little abusive with the facts.DCT ☎ 12:45, July 3, 2013 (UTC)

As I recall GI was being at least inaccurate. I remember being struck by the inaccuracy of his reference to the Sycorax Leader, and thinking that we needed to take everything the GI said about the Doctor with a grain of salt. And lets not forget that to the Forest people, even "The Doctor" means "Great Warrior." That suggests that any nickname the GI offers, even if accurate (in that people actually called him that), may only represent an incomplete view of the Doctor by a single species who has only encountered him on one occaision, and never really understood what he did, or why he was there. Consequently, the GI's explanation of why the Doctor died on Trenzalore may also only reflect a very limited perspective. His obvious hatred for the Doctor hardly confers credibility.And his proposed revenge certainly doesn't suggest he really cares anything about his hostages except for how he may use them to hurt the Doctor. Of course, but we don't doubt that the Doctor dies on Trenzalore at some point in his future and unless the GI was lying outright - not implausible but it may feel like a cheat - then he has to pick up three new nicknames and have the adventures connected to them before them. That seems like a very long time to leave the Trenzalore mystery unsolved or else somethings going to happen that will bring this to a head very quickly.DCT ☎ 14:34, July 5, 2013 (UTC)

I didn't mean that the Doctor might not have died there, only that GI's characterization of it might be inaccurate. But I don't follow the rest of what you said. Why is it important that he have 3 accurate nicknames to settle Trenzalore? Because one/all apply to Hurt? Three is generous because we were specifically given them and from what we know one of them at least is yet to come, but what the GI actually said was: "Welcome to the final resting place of the cruel tyrant, of the slaughterer of the ten billion and the vessel of the final darkness. Welcome to the tomb of the Doctor."..."It was minor skirmish by the Doctor's blood-soaked standards. Not exactly the time war but enough to finish him. In the end it was too much for the old man."..."Tell that to the leader of the Sycorax, or Solomon the trader, or the Cybermen, or the Daleks. The Doctor lives his life in darker hues, day upon day and he will have other names before the end: Storm, the Beast, the Valeyard."

Three names one we know as yet to come and the GI says the same of the other two. Those first three description could be argued as future nicknames too, particularly "vessel of the final darkness."

I'm also not sure why you think he's being inaccurate about the leader of the Sycorax. His point there is to say "Tell that to..." (Vashra had just said the Doctor wasn't blood soaked) and then list a number of beings the Doctor has in whole or part killed and thus can't be told any such thing. Since the Tenth did, in fact, kill the leader of the Sycorax it seems perfectly accurate.DCT ☎ 15:31, July 6, 2013 (UTC)
