This text is dummy text which will be taken away eventually. It is necessary to sometimes dump text of a certain length onto a page in order to get the system to realise that a new page has been created. Wikia have been advised of this problem, have admitted that it needs to be fixed, but yet have done sweet fanny about it. Consequently, we must sometimes put dummy text onto pages for no good reason. Please do not remove this text, as it won't be here long. Thank you.

In the autumn of 1961, Michael Barry, the BBC's Head of Drama, resigned. Donald Baverstock extended an invitation to Sydney Newman to replace Barry. Although the Canadian accepted the position of Head of Drama in this year, he was unable to formally undertake the position until 1962, because he remained under contract with ABC Television throughout the whole of 1961.
