Joseph Longfoot was a churchwarden outside a small Cornish village. He had previously been a pirate under Captain Avery. When the First Doctor, Ben Jackson and Polly Wright arrived, he offered them food. He was grateful when the Doctor fixed his dislocated finger.
Longfoot knew where Avery's treasure was hidden, and, fearing that his former crewmates would eventually catch up with him, gave the Doctor clues to its location. After the Doctor and his companions left, Cherub arrived and questioned Longfoot. Longfoot refused to tell Cherub his secret, so Cherub stabbed and killed him. His body was found by Tom, the stable boy. The blame for the murder of Longfoot was pinned on the Doctor and his companions. (TV: The Smugglers)
