Golden Gate Park was a public park in San Francisco which formed one of the boundaries of the Haight-Ashbury district of the city. Connected to the Panhandle, a distinct strip of parkland, it was a place of significant social activity, like 1967's Human Be-In.
As happened in the Panhandle in and around 1967, the Diggers would often open an "open-air soup kitchen" in the park, and provide free food to a number of people. (PROSE: Wonderland)
