In the 12th century, the Saracen Emir El Akir maintained a harem, in which he notably kept captured female slaves. (TV: The Crusade) In the 15th century, the Turkish sultan Mehmed the Conqueror and his Wallachian proxy Radu the Handsome also had harems of their own.
