Thom Kelligan was the captain of a gas dredger that mined gas from Jupiter. Like all dredger captains, he was telepathic.
Thom was telepathically controlled by a sentient entity from Jupiter. His ship was destroyed, and all aboard were presumed killed. However, they had been absorbed by the entity. Thom made telepathic contact with his wife, Norma Kelligan, who was also a captain of a gas dredger. He explained to her that Mr Hepton from the Lorannan-Ycole Corporation was trying to destroy the entity. Norma left the ship and joined with Thom, and together with the entity they defeated Hepton.
