Colonel LV Mortimer was a United States Marine. All the men in his family had been in the military all the way back to the American Civil War.
He was part of the force that invaded Haiti in 1915. Bernice Summerfield noted his risky behaviour. He told her his father had the hereditary disease Coomb's syndrome, and did not want to retire and waste away like him.
