Caresh was a planet in a binary system, inhabited by the Careshi. It had habitable land and large oceans.
A passing neutron star threatened to disrupt Caresh's orbit, making it uninhabitable. Lord Roche tried to change the neutron star's path to put Caresh into a closer orbit to Beacon, its warmest sun, though that would have caused the deaths of those living on Caresh's Southern Archipelago.
