The Wailers were a spacefaring species.
Elder Bones kidnapped a baby Wailer and brought it to Tantane Spaceport to use it to defeat his race's enemies, the Shargrane. Unfortunately, it was found by Customs and escaped. The spaceport was placed under lockdown, which lasted four hundred years. During this time, others of its race began bombarding the spaceport in an attempt to retrieve their child. They were finally able to do so after the arrival of the Sixth Doctor led to the spaceport's forcefield being lowered by Bones, who believed that his race, the Palpane, were responsible for the bombardment. (AUDIO: Spaceport Fear)
