: Unlikely. The Gareth in the TV movie saves the world in 2009 due to seismology breakthroughs, whereas this non-canonical Gareth saves the world in 2001 from a Sontaran invasion. The TV movie writers probably did not have young Jenkins in mind when they wrote the character in the TV movie. Only if they kept the details correct, or were even more vague on where the Eighth Doctor recognized Gareth from (e.g. an easter egg to fans), would it be a likely homage. And then, of course, we woud need and have official sources confirming that.--Tim Thomason ☎ 19:06, November 19, 2013 (UTC)

Gareth mentions that he watched it on television when the Doctor asked him how he could operate the TARDIS like that. This article says it breaks out from the storyline, but my guess is that it could be the first of three references to the show inside the show (e.g. Remembrance of the Daleks and In the Forest of the Night). --DCLM ☎ 15:24, November 1, 2014 (UTC)

Non-canonical means real world perspective, doesn't it?edit source

Can't quite understand why this article is in past tense, and seems to concentrate on the character of Gareth Jenkins, rather than the dude himself. A Fix with Sontarans isn't a valid resource according to MOS, is it? IF not, then this article should be wholly rewritten from the real world perspective. CzechOut | 04:41, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

It's worse than you think - there are actually two pages for the character: this one and Gareth Jenkins (A Fix with Sontarans). These two should be merged but I'm uncertain how it should be done. Doug86 05:01, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
I'd say move the other page here. Any real life person who ends up part of a fictional narrative without being very important behind the scenes should follow the lead of articles like Richard Dawkins.--Nyktimos 05:25, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

Article rewriteedit source

Rewrote article to be primarily a real world article. Stuff about the "character" of Gareth Jenkins roped off on its own at the bottom and written in a very present tense-y, matter-of-fact, real world kinda way. Took down notdwu because the focus of the article is now on the real person. Removed all the DWU categories; totally wrong for this guy to be in category:20th century individuals, since that category is solely for DWU characters. Gareth Jenkins isn't a part of the DWU at all, and can't be, if you've even taken a cursory look at the story in question. For those too young to have seen Fix, it occupies almost exactly the same narrative space as the Tonight's the Night sketch, except that the fourth wall is actually in better shape with the Barrowman thing.

Question: was the Gareth in the TV Movie (Paul McGann) the same Gareth? Just wondered. Hotshot70 10:39, January 3, 2013 (UTC)

Unlikely. And then, of course, we woud need and have official sources confirming that.--Tim Thomason 19:06, November 19, 2013 (UTC)

Watching on tellyedit source

Gareth mentions that he watched it on television when the Doctor asked him how he could operate the TARDIS like that. This article says it breaks out from the storyline, but my guess is that it could be the first of three references to the show inside the show (e.g. Remembrance of the Daleks and In the Forest of the Night). --DCLM 15:24, November 1, 2014 (UTC)
