Tom Thumb was the smallest elephant in P. T. Barnum's circus.

On 15 September 1885, in St Thomas, after performing, Tom Thumb was being transported along across track with Jumbo the Elephant. A train travelling along the track hit Tom Thumb throwing him off the track. The train then hit Jumbo, killing him.
