Stephen Merchant was a contributor to the Doctor Who reference book Behind the Sofa: Celebrity Memories of Doctor Who.

He also wrote, directed and was the executive producer for Extras: The Special with Ricky Gervais. The special featured Gervais' character Andy Millman, star as Schlong who faced the Tenth Doctor and an unnamed companion.

He is perhaps best known for work on comedy shows such as The Office, The Ricky Gervais Show and Hello Ladies. He also appeared in the X-Men film Logan.
