It was nearly twice the size of a Human and had increased strength, resilience and speed. Mistletoe would cause burning and twitches when the werewolf touched it. This might have been a conditioned response deliberately created by the Brethren or a physical allergy. It's unknown what affect silver would have, since none was used on it. It was also colourblind, but had a stronger sense of smell to compensate.

Eventually, in 1879, the Brethren arranged for Queen Victoria to be diverted to the nearby Torchwood Estate where the current host would infect her with the wolf cell, leading to the creation of the "Empire of the Wolf". The plot was thwarted by the Doctor and Rose, who used a telescope constructed by the father of Sir Robert MacLeish against the werewolf. The telescope was in actuality a gigantic light amplification chamber, and using the Koh-i-Noor diamond as a focusing element, struck the werewolf with enough moonlight to dispel it from the planet. It is unclear, however, if Victoria was indeed infected in the end. (DW: Tooth and Claw)

The Host was an unnamed human boy who lived in 19th century Scotland.

Biography[[edit] | [edit source]]

The Brethren (on the orders of Father Angelo) took the boy away from his homestead in the night, and allowed him to be bitten by the Lupine Wavelength Haemovariform they worshipped. He became infected by the Haemovariform that "carved out his soul and sat in his heart". The Host was given all-black eyes and was entirely controlled by the Haemovariform, which could access the Host's memories and use some basic telepathy.

Every full moon, he would transform into a true Haemovariform, the process of which was incredibly painful. The real boy was long dead.

When the Tenth Doctor used the Torchwood House light chamber with the Koh-i-Noor to destroy the Haemovariform, the Host began to live again and asked the Doctor to increase the effect and destroy him, which he did. The Host died sacrificing his life to save the world. (TV: Tooth and Claw [+]Loading...["Tooth and Claw (TV story)"])

Personality[[edit] | [edit source]]

The Host was somewhat sadistic — the monster claimed to have carved out his soul to enter him. The Haemovariform also appeared to be very perceptive of people and recognised that Rose was intelligent but also detected the Bad Wolf inside of her. When the Haemovariform was destroyed, he began to live again but chose to die. (TV: Tooth and Claw [+]Loading...["Tooth and Claw (TV story)"])

Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]

 • The motion capture for the Haemovariform was provided by Jeff Green.
