Rename[[edit]]

This page doesn't need a rename at all. By Tardis:Disambiguation, the dab term should be the title of the first appearance, as it already is. OncomingStorm12th 13:37, October 23, 2016 (UTC)

  • I disagree. It should be Charlie (Class) as that is what people will search for, pending the eventual reveal of his surname. 23skidoo 16:11, October 29, 2016 (UTC)
It is a bit pointless disagreeing with the current policy: unless it is changed by a discussion on Panopticon, we are all bound to it. And changing it would have required an enormous man/womanpower to rename about half of character pages. However, on the topic of search easiness, I would respectfully disagree that using "Class" in the name is a good idea. In fact, I'm extremely mad at the showrunners for using such a generic name instead of, say "Coal Hill Class". I tried Googling for the show itself multiple times. It's the worst name ever. Finding it typically requires two-three more additional keywords even within a specialised website. Even now, with all the hype and with my biased search history, a Google search for "Charlie Class" does not land a viable result visible on my big display (the top result is "Charlie-class submarine" on Wikipedia). Now let us fast forward after all Class broadcasts are history. Searching for "Charlie Class" then would be completely and utterly hopeless. At the same time, already typing "Charli" in the search box of this Wikia yields "Charlie (For Tonight We Might Die)" among the six suggestions. So there is absolutely no problem finding the character as is. Amorkuz 09:12, October 31, 2016 (UTC)
Personally, I often use url field directly when looking up something in any wiki, so search box is of little use to me. I may be a minority, but it's worth considering. A character instrumental for entire show should have his disambigiation bound to a single episode --Глючарина 10:53, October 31, 2016 (UTC)
I'm sure we'll get his last name from a valid source soon anyway, so changing the disambig term is pointless, better to just wait until he's called "Smith" on screen. JagoAndLitefoot 11:06, October 31, 2016 (UTC)
Well, with all due respect, if you yourself do not care whether others can read your name, I'm not sure why others should care that you would not use the search functionality specifically developed for your use. I can only hope that your name is not something offensive in whatever language you're using.
Answering your concern more directly, there is a proviso in the policy T:DAB that a primary topic can be written without a dab term. If you'd like to propose that a character who only appeared in 6 stories so far and is one of a group of six main characters for one spin-off in a 50+-year history of the show - that this character is a primary topic, you can open a discussion on Panopticon. Good luck with that: I couldn't even persuade people that Petronella Osgood is a primary topic. Amorkuz 11:19, October 31, 2016 (UTC)
  • It should be "Charlie Smith (Class)", since that's his full name. The preceding unsigned comment was added by 79.40.39.178 (talk).
Did you find this full name in an in-universe source (TV episode or book)? Amorkuz 09:12, October 31, 2016 (UTC)

(On Googling Class) Ha, tell me about it! Even "BBC Class" usually doesn't work. I actually have to use the keywords "Class Coal Hill" or "Class Doctor Who" to get anywhere at all.

(On Charlie Smith) At this point, he has not been given a surname in any valid source. I'm relatively certain that he will, at some point. Only then can this page be renamed. For now, it's Charlie (For Tonight We Might Die), and that's where it stays.

(On Charlie Smith) The name was used in the most recent episode, so perhaps time for a change. Jekrox 10:27, November 5, 2016 (UTC)

According to T:OFF REL, based on the extended discussion last Saturday, this can be done in 30 minutes. On your marks, get, set go! :) Amorkuz 10:30, November 5, 2016 (UTC)
To be absolutely precise, I meant that T:OFF REL allows to put a speedy rename tag on a page starting from 11:00am. Obviously, renaming the page itself should only be done by admins. Amorkuz 12:37, November 5, 2016 (UTC)
