Catherine Grace Parsons was the daughter of Alice Parsons, who named her after Catherine Wheel.

Catherine was born on 11 November 1959, out of wedlock. Due to this, Alice had to put her up for adoption. Catherine was adopted by a couple from Stoke Newington.

In the letters to her daughter, which were never sent, Alice also called her Sophia.
