Ayaka was a Thal soldier and a descendant of Rebec. Her father was also a soldier and she had a daughter, Rebec, named after their ancestor. Ayaka grew up not knowing her father, but was proud of him because he fought against the Daleks. She served in a Thal military unit led by Delani that boarded and took control of the starship Quetzel. Delani killed the Quetzel's captain Balatan after he refused to surrender the ship to the Thals, an act that was witnessed by the Eighth Doctor and Sam Jones. The Doctor and Sam reminded Ayaka of her conscience and that what Delani had done was murder. This, along with the fact that Delani was willing to make a deal with Davros, the creator of the Daleks, yet killed an innocent caused her to doubt her leader. When Delani ordered her to execute the Doctor and Sam, Ayaka killed him instead. (PROSE: War of the Daleks)
