Dr Christiaan Barnard was a "medical genius" who performed the first open heart surgery on a human. The Sixth Doctor pointed out to Evelyn Smythe that Dr Barnard had only saved lives because of William Burke and Billy Hare's murders "a century or so before". (AUDIO: Medicinal Purposes)
