Val Freedom was a third generation colonist on Axista Four.

He was about the same age as the second generation colonists, though, since his grandmother gave birth whilst the colonists were in transit. Freedom wanted to bring Kirann Ransom out of cryostasis to help solve the colony's problems. However, the medics with the requisite skills had all died when the ship crashed on the planet a century before. However, when the Second Doctor arrived, Freedom convinced him to awaken Ransome.
