Commander Chaudhuri was the leading member of staff on board the Great Solar Shield in the 21st century.

He was expected to never return to Earth, and had a life expectancy of five years when the Great Solar Shield was exposed to coronal mass ejections and space radiation storms. When the Tenth Doctor destroyed the Silhouettes that were attacking the Shield, he caused the Shield. Chaudhuri ordered his crew to assemble in the Doctor's TARDIS so they could be returned home.
