South Gallifrey was a mountainous area of Gallifrey (TV: State of Decay) that the Doctor knew very little about. It was a fabulous wintry landscape with fierce snowy weather every day. The house of Iris Wildthymes' Aunts was rooted in a mountain here, hundreds of stories tall. (PROSE: The Scarlet Empress)

Members of Pandak's High Council had estates in South Gallifrey. (PROSE: The Scrolls of Rassilon)

Thessalia thought of the mountains as being little more than the home of hermits and feral cats; (PROSE: The Return of the King) the territory of the Killer Cats was called Gin-Seng. (AUDIO: Erasure, et al)

The Hermit came from the mountains of South Gallifrey. (TV: State of Decay)

Despite not being part of the southern hemisphere (PROSE: The Scarlet Empress) and being close enough to have a view of the Capitol, (PROSE: The Three Paths) Mount Lung and House Lungbarrow were still considered to be in the south. (PROSE: Lungbarrow) House Ixion, the southernmost of the Great Houses' chapterhouses, was close but still beyond the southern mountains. (PROSE: The Return of the King)
