Cathal Summerfield, né Cathy Summerfield, was a human. They were one of Bernice Summerfield's ancestors.
They were born in 2344 and presumably assigned female. When Cathal turned sixteen in 2360, they announced that they were an androgyne, which was socially accepted at the time. They underwent an operation and changed their name to Cathal. Their father was embarrassed by this, and in 2362 he died "of a broken heart".
In 2363, after hermaphroditism became considered less socially acceptable again, Cathal was forced to make some quick money by providing their body for a medical experiment. In an Earth Empire laboratory, they gave birth to Benedict Summerfield IV. (PROSE: Dead Romance)
