Pigbin Josh, or Old Josh, (PROSE: Doctor Who and the Claws of Axos) was a tramp who witnessed Axos landing on Earth.
Biography[[edit] | [edit source]]
Josh was riding his bike when he fell into a hole in some ice on a lake. He stumbled around and sighted the landing ship. While investigating, he was captured and analysed by the entity. After finding him unsuitable, it drained his energy and ejected him for having atypical intelligence. His corpse was discovered by Sergeant John Benton and Captain Mike Yates, who initially thought it was that of American agent Bill Filer. (TV: The Claws of Axos)
Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]
- Pigbin Josh is never named in the on-screen dialogue; his name is given only on the closing credits. He is named as Old Josh in Terrance Dicks's novelisation of the story.
- The discovery of Josh's body originally showed his face collapsing in on itself on contact with Benton's hand, but the shot was deemed too disturbing for younger viewers and obscured by a white flare video effect in the televised version. An unsyphered version — i.e. minus the video effect — is available to watch in the Deleted Scenes section of the DVD release.
