The sentient iron crash-landed near West Barnton Airfield.
After the Third Doctor examined it, it was allowed to be taken to the University Museum although some iron filings had escaped. Some students travelling to Holland on a school trip boarded a plane that had been afflicted by the filings. The undercarriage collapsed but the pilot was warned before it took off. After this was reported to UNIT, men moved in with anti-corrosion liquid. The water tower was also destroyed. (COMIC: The Metal Eaters)
