Bat Masterson was the sheriff of Tombstone, Arizona. In October 1881, he and Wyatt Earp rescued Steven Taylor from the Clantons.
He tried in vain to persuade Earp not to take part in the gunfight at the O.K. Corral and told Earp that he couldn't go with him. He deputised the First Doctor to talk the Clantons out of fighting. (TV: The Gunfighters)
