Montgomery Bus Boycott

The Montgomery Bus Boycott was an important event in civil rights history. Started by Rosa Parks in Montgomery, Alabama on 1 December 1955, the boycott was enacted by bus passengers throughout Montgomery who refused to use the segregated bus services for over a year.

The boycotts were successful, and eventually, racial segregation on buses in Montgomery was illegalised on 21 December 1956, ushering in the Civil Rights Movement, led by Martin Luther King. (TV: Rosa)
