Leslie Bates (died 2014[1])had several uncredited roles in some of the first Doctor Who TV stories. Most notable of these was as the stand-in for Jeremy Young as Kal. It is Bates's shadow that is seen at the cliffhanger conclusions of both "The Pilot Episode" and the first episode of the transmitted version of An Unearthly Child, which was also titled "An Unearthly Child". (DWMS Summer 1994) Bates also had roles in Dixon of Dock Green and Z-Cars, among others.
