The Airship Rises to Fame was a feature published in Doctor Who Annual 1977.
It referred to the likes of the Montgolfier brothers, Jean Pierre Blanchard, John Jeffries, Henri Giffard, Alberto Santos-Dumant, and Walter Wellman.

- The Montgolfier brothers invented and crewed the first ever hot air balloon in 1784.
- In January 1785, Jean Pierre Blanchard and John Jeffries crossed the English Channel in a hot air balloon.
