British English, please
We generally use British English round these parts, so if you're American, please be sure you set your spell checker to BrEng, and take a gander at our spelling cheat card.
Spoilers aren't cool
We have a strict definition of "spoiler" that you may find a bit unusual. Basically, a spoiler, to us, is anything that comes from a story which has not been released yet. So, even if you've got some info from a BBC press release or official trailer, it basically can't be referenced here. In other words, you gotta wait until the episode has finished its premiere broadcast to start editing about its contents. Please check the spoiler policy for more details.

Explanation

Hi. I thought I would just pop by to explain why I removed your first edit on Hexagora (audio story) about the reference to A Christmas Carol. The main issue with that edit was that the sentence you added the source to said that the Doctor had been engaged before, and the engagement to Marilyn Monroe did not fit that criteria as it happened in the Doctor's future. I study Chemical Physics and would be very interested in writing more wiki articles based on mathematics and science. How can we get started on this project? I'm not technically a philosophy major, my minor was that. I don't like talking about my personal life too much, but effectively my areas of interest (without going into issues of specialization, which is too much for me to be comfortable about) would be something like history and philosophy of science, as well as foundations of physics, and both of those specifically related to quantum mechanics and structuralism. In general though, this wiki doesn't talk about issues unless they're mentioned in the DWU, and it doesn't talk about them that much past what is said about them in the DWU. So for instance, I've gone through and tried to add or clean up small behind the scene sections for most of the quantum physics entries here. EG: Klein-Gordon field had no behind the scenes section and so the entire thing was just technobabble to any reader of the wiki. But creating an entry for, say, Bohmian Mechanics, while something I would adore, would be outside the scope of this wiki. Najawin ☎ 06:44, June 13, 2020 (UTC)

Oh, I see. My apologies for asking, that was very rude of me. Thank you for the explanation though. That really is a shame as there is quite a lot of potential in that and honestly I do get rather sad when the show and the wiki rely on technobabble rather than legitimate science but it is understandable. I guess that would explain why the Happy prime page was so small. That is too bad. I do also remember seeing the Klein-Gordon field page and was wondering why it was so small compared to the chapters I have seen in my QFT course textbook! Is there no way to convince the admins of the legitimacy of such a project? I would be happy to continue this conversation in private if that is what you may prefer. Is there a way to exchange such information on the wiki via some communication channel that is not related to the "talk" button featured on a user's page? P.S. I also notice that each time I update this page, your edit for the note that user LauraBatham left seems to disappear. Is there something I am doing wrong or that I am doing to cause this. Each time I see a new message I just "edit" the talk page. Should I not be doing this?

No worries, but I'd really rather not. The policy for the wiki is that things are meant to be for the average user who will come to the site. So saying, "oh, you've heard of the Schrodinger equation and relativity, combine those for some particles, that sorta works" makes sense. Getting into the nuances of what the exact equation is, spin, QFT, etc etc, that will harm the average reader more than it helps them. I don't think I ever edited Laura's comment. So I'm not sure what that's about. Speaking of Chemical Physics though, have you read Woolley's 1978 paper? Must a Molecule Have a Shape? It raised a lot of questions people still haven't found completely satisfactory answers for. Najawin ☎ 07:11, June 13, 2020 (UTC)

No problem, I understand about it being too much for a general user. My friends certainly get bored to tears anytime I start talking about my work. I guess I just need some new friends haha! Anyhow, don't worry about the problem with user LauraBatham 's comment, I found out what happened, I kept clicking on the "recent edit" part of the notification so it was showing me the most recent edit to the page (the green text that usually appears at the top of the page when you check the latest update to a page showing you where the update happened. Actually, it's funny you should mention R. Guy Woolley. His name was brought up a few times in an advanced undergraduate Inorganic Chemistry class I took since I believe his work on calculating Hamiltonians for those types of high-spin molecules is quite prominent in the field. The professor also mentioned about his work in other areas of Chemistry and Physics but I was, ashamedly, uninterested by it at the time and never really bothered to check out more. I am currently a "graduate grunt" who is more focused on experimental theoretical science rather than philosophical so I have never really had a chance to pursue that area. To bring this back around to R.G. Woolley, I also took a statistical mechanics class in which his name was brought up again and the professor for that course recommended we, in fact, read that very same 1978 paper you mentioned. Sadly, I am ashamed to admit that I failed to for the second time, mostly because I was more interested when I found out at the end of the course about how Statistical Mechanics has been revived since it is playing such a big role in machine learning and neural networks currently (I even wrote my term paper on it) so I spent all my holiday reading time on that instead. Curiosity to some extent. It's probably one of the few areas of chemistry I have any knowledge of whatsoever though, since it's specifically about whether shape, a form of structure, can become emergent from quantum mechanics (the answer being in general no, meaning that chemistry isn't straightforwardly reducible to physics [actually there was a later paper by someone else, I forget who, arguing that pilot wave theory has the philosophical capacity to allow for chemistry, but the point remains that quantum mechanics in general can't necessarily produce chemistry]). Although it's fascinating to think about the implications and even moreso that Chemistry cannot be purely reduced to Physics. Eddy Currents

Having not listened to Hexagora (audio story) I'm not sure what all that page would say. However, at the top of the wiki, on the right hand side you should see something like "82,926 pages" and then to the right, "ADD". If you click "ADD", that should allow you to create a page. Hey there. With the Eddy Currents links you made, are you referring to a character mentioned in the audio story or the electrical currents? It is vital you make it clear which one you mean because right now, the link and grammar are very confusing, since the page link is a name but the works after don't follow naming grammar. Forum

So remember how I mentioned the button to "ADD" pages? Similarly if you also look in the menu bar in that banner, there's "EXPLORE", which has a dropdown menu. "FORUM" will bring you to the forum. The two most active boards are "The Panopticon", sort of the general policy discussion board and "Inclusion debates", for if certain stories should be considered as "valid" under T:VALID. Well, the category isn't for stories, it's just for characters. And, just to clarify, if there's a small, not really controversial change, then you can just go ahead. If it's slightly controversial, probably go over to the talk page of the page you're planning to edit. If it's a change or proposal that will affect multiple pages, head over to Board:The Panopticon. For admins, just go over to their talk pages and they'll usually have the answers. If you go here Special:Community, you'll be able to see all the admins. Best of luck with the plot summaries! Working on a page

Hi you perhaps don't know that we have a template you can use if you're trying to do multiple edits for a page and want to keep others from editing while you're doing so. It's the {{inuse}} template. Put it at the top of the page, and don't forget to remove it when you're done. The template really shouldn't be on the page for more than 72 hours. See Template:Inuse to see what it looks like. Plots

Hi, first of all, thanks for filling out plot summaries. There are so many that need to be filled out, and as someone who has done hundreds of them, I appreciate when others do so as well. I just need to point out that there are various formatting and punctuation issues when you copy/paste from other sources, so if possible, could you maybe start a sandbox page where you can work on summaries and then copy/paste from there? Re: Werewolves, Vulpana and Mags

Hi! I was not actually planning on listening to the Mags audios any time soon, I was just going through a recategorization of the entire Category:Werewolves after listening to Loups-Garoux. I was inspired by the eponymous werewolf species in that story, and decided to make a page for it, before discovering that there were plenty of other separate species of werewolf, so I created Category:Werewolf species.

You might have noticed my edits relating to PROSE: The Juror's Story too, which is also rather lycanthropic, but it's really a neat coincidence that I've listened/read two werewolf stories in a row. So yeah, go ahead and write the plot for An Alien Werewolf in London - I personally don't have the patience for writing such things, so I laud those that do! Hi, I added the stub because the article failed to mention anything about the 1960 election or his two children and also gave a rather outdated summary of the assassination itself considering my renovations to Kennedy assassination. Neat as those videos are (and I concur with Epsilon regarding that Drashig), posting direct links to off-site videos is against the rules of this Wiki to prevent rampant copyright infringement. You'd be better off giving Epsilon the titles of the videos and deleting the link.

Licensing

Actually, there's a way to do it while you're uploading - I just have to do it this way because I wasn't the one to upload it (this guide is horribly outdated, but that's the one that currently exists on the wiki). Time/Energy Uncertainty

Not having listened to the audio, I don't know how appropriate "In the context of the story, it is only used as an analogy to explain why the TARDIS over-shoots its destinations a lot. It should not be taken literally" is, it may be that explaining the differences is more helpful, because you told me what the Uncertainty Principle is IRL, but not in the story, so I don't really know how they differ. See the Notes section at Pre-narrative Briefings (short story) for a recent example of how I handled some really egregious physics errors - the goal is to help a layman understand, not other scientists.

In addition, I note that the time-energy uncertainty relation, if you really insist on talking about it, is basically, outside of actual interpretations, quite possibly the most contentious issue in all of non-relativistic QM? (Some relevant resources are here here, and here.) I don't know how relevant it is to the analogy being made, and if it's not, the angle-action principle is similarly controversial, and there are all sorts of uncertainty principles that aren't controversial at all. So it would come down to personal preference. I edited some slight language changes and another reference under the assumption that you're keeping the time-energy relation, but, again, I don't know what the actual analogy is, and that changes how I would edit the section. Hey, thanks for reaching out! So, lets break the answer down in several points, so I can address them better:

• [[Literatos II]] is indeed an incorrect spelling; glad you picked that up. In fact, luckily, we have scripts for the Main Range available, so I could check it quickly, and we need yet another change, the spelling is actually Literalis Two.
• Now, how to deal with this mistake? Again you're correct: you're not supposed to either delete them (which you literally can't) nor move them (which you "can", but shouldn't). Whenever you see a situation like this, you can use either {{rename}} or {{speedy rename}} (check the Template pages I linked to see when use which). If it's something super, super important that needs changing (say, you created a page with a misspelling or something like that) you can drop a message and we'll get to that faster than usual.
• Cleanup/finetuning your edits: sure! We're a community after all (even if sometimes it may look like we're that much apart these last few months/years, honestly). So not only I'll make sure to go through your edits (though it's been a loooong time since I've heard the story myself) but I actively thank you for asking this, and encourage you to do so in the future, be it with me or other users. Honestly, we're overdue (re)creating an atmosphere of community here on Tardis Wiki, and stuff like this is exactly what we need. :)
• Following on my previous point, I might not catch all the continuity points as well, but you can just add the ones you can't pinpoint to a specific story to the "References" section, and if I (or someone else in the future) can, I/they can move it to the "Continuity" part of the page.
• Finally (and sorry that I rambled and made a giant post) don't worry about sounding rude; you absolutely did not; quite the opposite in fact. Obviously not OS12, but re: the last point, references to other characters on this wiki are a bit nuanced and, honestly, inconsistent. See Thread:279761#33 for someone else discussing their frustration with this issue. Now, regarding Time Lord (Invaders from Mars), I'll ask you to remind me a bit on the connection to the Monk, because I've heard/seen both stories years ago ;p. From a quick look at the page, the Doctor only gave a somewhat vague description on that Time Lord's personality, that, truly points towards the Monk, but isn't quite that specific.

Further, Cnut isn't referred by name at any point in The Time Meddler. And while it looks like Time Lord (Invaders from Mars) is intended as a reference to the Monk, I don't know (at least form the information we have on that page) that there's in-universe proof that they're one and the same. Whoa, I love a bit of chemistry (hence why I've ended up in structural biology :p) that sounds incredibly interesting! I am doing a topic given to me by my supervisor. At least, one of three topics his lab is gonna be doing some preliminary stuff on over the summer to see which are actually viable in an Honours project. For example one involves spectroscopic characterisation of RNA, which is rather more difficult than the proteins the lab is used to analysing. If I'm honest, I'm not sure where I'd start if I were to think of my own project, but that's definitely good advice anyway. Luckily I'm already immensely interested in at least 2/3 of the projects he's suggested, so I think I'll be alright in that regard. But yes, It looks like an incredibly technical yet fascinating area you're going into, so best of luck to you as well!

Oh, whoops. I'm glad you mentioned that they're IDW coloured comics, as I don't believe they're allow to be used on the wiki, at least not outside of the behind the scenes. Aha, I'm not enjoying it just yet, only just began discussing projects with my supervisor yesterday! We don't begin properly until around February-March. We only discussed this briefly yesterday, but the RNA in question is that which makes up the double-stranded RNA genome of Paramyxoviruses, or at least a model of said genome. Since nucleotide bases are much less distinct than amino acids, apparently it might not be possible to actually detect a helpful NMR signal with what we're looking at, but it's possible that this won't be a problem. I'm basically gonna spend this summer reading up on paramyxoviruses and all this stuff so that I have a good knowledge going into the research. Then there's also the classes I'm taking concurrent to the research. A Masters over here is basically 1 year of classes followed by 1 year of research, while an Honours is around 50% classes 50% research in a single year, where both provide a pathway to a PhD. Don't worry about it! American spelling is uncomfortably pervasive so I see it as my one patriotic duty to keep all the Zs they use instead of Ses at bay. I've recently graduated in Law and been looking for jobs without much success, so I'm spending a lot of my time working on pages of often forgotten companions like Ben, Polly and Dodo. Its involved a lot of skimming through books scanning for facts about their childhoods and all that. I wrote up plot summaries for all of Doom Coalition a little while ago but don't have much enthusiasm for doing the same for Ravenous, so this has been my new project. So I have no clue if we're ever going to get the "following" feature back. But if you use Special:RecentChanges, and set "On Watchlist" as a filter, along with going suitably far back enough in the other search parameters, you should be able to recover a lot of the pages you lost. It's not something the mods can really do anything about. This is a FANDOM issue, every wiki has been changed over to new software that does this. Czech is staff, so it's possible that our complaints will get relayed through him, since we made them on the thread and maybe something will change for the entire FANDOM network, but Shambala, SOTO, Scrooge, etc, can't do anything about this. While as one of the original 150 wikis we tend to get some perks and legacy features, I think (compounded with our size), this is something FANDOM has been working on for months. (See here and here.) Since we use Semantic Media Wiki, we were actually one of the last wikis to transfer over to the new software. The change has been, uh, controversial, to say the least, in part because it originally did not have any type of source editor, just a visual editor, but also because of issues like losing WikiActivity or just problems with the rollout. So remember how there was that kerfuffle with the forums? You wouldn't have been involved, but you should have gotten notifications for it. Our forums were suddenly ported to Discussions without any warning. This was a mistake (not something the admins did), and it was undone, but caused massive confusion from basically everyone. Think of that as us being "on notice" from then on out. About a month ago, maybe longer, a banner appeared at the top of the wiki saying that we would be migrating soon. That meant that we were supposed to migrate within two weeks. Two weeks came and went, no migration. Took about a month for us to finally migrate, Czech even had another post about what was taking so long. To my knowledge, FANDOM never communicated that followed pages would be lost (well, an easy to look place for them, you can still do what I suggested, search activity on your followed pages, it should bring up all of them). I certainly never read anything about that.

As for the editor, they backtracked. This is the 2013 (iirc) source editor + the visual editor if you want to use that as well, two editors like before, just the source editor is updated. The original version of UCP only had the visual editor, no source editor. They literally didn't think about the fact that some users were being actively harmed by only having a visual editor. The 2010 WikiEditor will be coming to the UCP as a side-by-side alternative to the current 2017 Editor. While the 2017 Editor has been great for a lot of our users, particularly less experienced editors, it has become clear that it is not sufficiently meeting the needs of many power editors. This addition will allow power editors to continue their workflows while we keep working on the 2017 Editor’s source mode functionality.
