Adamnan was a 6th century historian who wrote about Saint Columba's encounter was a monster at Loch Ness in 565. He described it as "the driving away of a certain water monster by virtue of prayer of the holy man". The incident was later considered the first recorded sighting of the Loch Ness Monster.
