Salzburg

Salzburg was an Austrian city. The name meant "salt castle" because they used to mine salt in the vicinity. Denizens of the city were called Salzburgians. (AUDIO: Better Watch Out)

For the Eighth Doctor, the city was the home of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and firmly associated with the film The Sound of Music, which he could endlessly quote. (AUDIO: Better Watch Out)

While pretending to be from Salzburg, Tamsin Drew described its mountains, edelweiss and goat herds. (AUDIO: The Book of Kells)

Topography[[edit] | [edit source]]

The city stood on the river Salzach. (PROSE: Do You Believe in the Krampus?) One could see the snow-laden Alps from the city. (AUDIO: Better Watch Out)

Several streets were situated near the river, including Giselakai, Imbergstrasse and Steingasse. A hotel owned by Heine was situated on Giselakai. (PROSE: Do You Believe in the Krampus?)

A fortress overlooked the city. It could be reached via a single road or, alternatively, by a cable railway. (AUDIO: Fairytale of Salzburg)
