Takagi Mamoru was a daimyo who ruled from Nagomi Castle in 1820s Japan.
He was opposed to Shogun Tokugawa Ienari and gathered a group of other daimyos to support him in his rebellion against the emperor, but was betrayed by one of his samurai, who alerted the emperor to the uprising. The emperor sent an army to take Nagomi castle, ordering all those within to commit seppuku or they would be killed upon their entry to the castle. After a final conversation with the First Doctor, Mamoru obliged and killed himself, knowing he had no chance of victory left. (AUDIO: The Barbarians and the Samurai)
