* In the 21st century, the joke represented in this back-up comic would likely be meant as a pun at the expense of the transgender community. If one were to view it in such a way, the joke would be based upon the pretence that the ''transistor'' was a sister designated a brother at birth. However, it is doubtful that either the writer of this piece (a fan of the magazine who mailed in the joke) nor the artist (who would select the jokes to illustrate) meant for this to be the meaning behind the punchline. The (correct) spelling of the word as well in the comic as the over-all tone of the piece would suggest that the only joke at the time was that ''transistors'' has the word ''sisters'' in it.
