Dr Gemma Corwyn was the Wheel's medical officer and psychiatrist.
Biography[[edit] | [edit source]]
Dr Corwyn was born around 1965, (TV: The Mind Robber; AUDIO: Prison in Space; PROSE: The Wheel in Space) 2044 (AUDIO: The Dying Light; PROSE: The Wheel in Space) or later (PROSE: The Indestructible Man) and married a man who later died in the asteroid belt. (TV: The Wheel in Space)
Aboard the Wheel, Dr Corwyn worked as medical officer and psychiatrist, her quarters doubling for a consulting room. (PROSE: The Wheel in Space) Additionally, she was second-in-command to Jarvis Bennett. She stepped in when Jarvis "kicked up a mad dust storm" upon learning of Bill Duggan's greenhouse in the power room, telling Jarvis that the greenhouse was good therapy for Bill. Bill was allowed to keep his hobby and affectionately called her "Doc Corwyn".
Three years after her husband's death, Dr Corwyn tried to convince Jarvis not to destroy Silver Carrier, concerned that there might be life aboard. She examined the Second Doctor and Jamie McCrimmon upon their arrival, reporting to Jarvis that Jamie was lying about their presence on the Carrier, and introduced them to Zoe Heriot. She believed the Doctor's concerns about the Cybermen and attempted to persuade Jarvis of them without success.
Dr Corwyn managed to warn the Doctor of the Cybermen's plan to poison the air supply with capsules that would turn the oxygen to ozone and was killed by a Cyberman whilst trying to flee from it. The Doctor informed her colleagues of her death, telling them that she sacrificed her life. (TV: The Wheel in Space)
Legacy[[edit] | [edit source]]
Zoe mentioned Dr Corwyn's death at the hands of the Cybermen when attempting to persuade the Sixth Doctor to allow her to sacrifice her own life to stop them. (AUDIO: Last of the Cybermen)
Dr Corwyn's name was one of those included on an email sent to the Fourth Doctor by the Glarn, holding him responsible for her death. (PROSE: The Glarn Strategy)
Personality[[edit] | [edit source]]
Dr Corwyn was a sensible, cautious and intelligent woman who believed that points of contention between the senior personnel of the Wheel should be resolved in private. (PROSE: The Wheel in Space)
Appearance[[edit] | [edit source]]
In her mid-thirties, Dr Corwyn was pleasant-looking (PROSE: The Wheel in Space) and had short hair. (TV: The Wheel in Space)
